Failure in British ATC System temporarily affects all Speedy Airlines flights to and from Great Britain

A major failure in the British Air Traffic Control (ATC) (otherwise known as NATS) system disrupted a small quantity of Speedy Airlines flights bound and from Great Britain today, this incident sheds light on modern day aviation reliance on technology in the air and on the ground.

A failure inside NATS automatic flight plan system meant that as a fall-back, flight plans were being inputted manually into their database, many flights can have lots of different waypoints which meant that they could not be processed or dealt with as fast as the automatic system would be able to handle it.

As a result, NATS enforced traffic flow restrictions to ensure the safety of all passengers and crew both on the ground and in the sky.

Due to these unforseen circumstances, a small quantity of Speedy Airlines flights were hit by disruptions and delays. Passengers were promptly informed about the situation and were given the option to abandon their flight and reschedule or get a full refund.

"Aviation authorities alerted Speedy Airlines promptly to this issue and their guidelines were swiftly and strictly followed" says Rebecca Turner, spokesperson for Speedy Airlines.
